1. Welcome and Setup

Welcome to Django Fundamentals.

In this course, you'll build a Django site from an empty folder to a working first version: a database, an admin, pages with a form, and a JSON API.

What We'll Build

RescueScout is a site for an animal rescue.

Depending on the user, it has a few different requirements:

  • Employees manage the animals and review and approve adoption applications in Django's admin.
  • Volunteers add animals and keep their records up to date in Django's admin, but they don't see adoption applications and can't change an animal's status.
  • Visitors want to browse animals looking for a home, and apply to adopt one.

We also want to provide a JSON REST API for browsing animals.
